October 2018 newsletter

Happy Fall! According to the weatherman it certainly won't feel very fall like on this first week of October! This month we have several events occurring at DMS. Friday, October 5th will mark the last day of our first quarter for this school year. Report cards may be picked up at Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 11th. A full conference schedule can be found in the upcoming events section below.

Our 7th/8th grade girls have begun their basketball season and are off to a winning start. Cross Country has done well as a team and individually this season, and have a couple more meets this season. The 7th/8th grade boys will wrap up their football season this Thursday evening and begin basketball on Monday, October 8th. With both boys and girls basketball season in swing next week, we will have a DMS Spirit Week to celebrate; Monday-Black & Gold day, Tuesday-Twin Day, Wednesday-Pajama Day, Thursday-Character Day.

In addition to athletics, we have some great academic opportunities for students this month. We are pleased to partner each year with Sharaya Wright from the University of Missouri Extension Office who will begin presenting nutrition lessons during health classes. On Friday, October 5th a group of 7th/8th grade girls will be attending a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) event sponsored by Missouri S&T in Rolla. This should be a great opportunity for some of our students to learn about exciting careers in these fields. On Saturday, October 6th the DMS Drama Club will be presenting Hee Haw at 6:00 p.m. in the CRCC Auditorium. This should be a great show and includes dinner! Later this month we will have a focus on standing up against bullying with the national anti-bullying day being held on Thursday, October 18th. To round out the month we will have Red Ribbon Week, which is the annual week to discuss drug abuse awareness and prevention.
